What Does ASR Mean on Standing Desk?
ASR stands for Anti-Collapse Stability Range and is shown on the panel when the controller unit can not correctly read the desk’s height. This error can be caused for several reasons and can be solved simply by resetting the desk.
Now that you know what it means, here’s how you can fix the ASR Error on standing desks:
Fix Standing Desk ASR ErrorÂ
Answer:
If you are facing an ASR error on your standing desk, you can fix it simply by resetting the desk: press & hold the DOWN arrow button until the desk reaches its lowest level. Now Press and Hold the DOWN arrow button again for a few seconds until the desk resets.
You can also follow the process in the video below:
You can follow the exact RESET instructions for your desk brand later in the article.
Now, let’s discuss the Causes and Solutions in more detail:
Causes of ASR Error on Sit-Stand desk
As I mentioned earlier, an ASR error is displayed when the controller is unable to detect its position relative to the minimum position, And it can be caused for several reasons:
1. Power Loss
If the electricity is suddenly disconnected even for a second, it can cause the controller unit to lose its current position, and therefore it will display the ASR Error and needs to be reset.
Power loss itself can be caused for several reasons:
1. Electricity Outage
2. Loose Cables
3. Cable Pull Out by Accident
So, to avoid facing the ASR Error, ensure you avoid the reasons above.
2. Control Box at Rest
In most standing desks, the controller unit will go into REST MODE if not used for several minutes or hours.
Although this function benefits both the controller’s longevity and saving energy, it can sometimes cause problems such as the ASR Error.
Just like other cases, this can be solved easily by resetting the desk. However, if the desk is stuck in REST MODE and doesn’t react, you can unplug it for a few seconds and try resetting it afterward.
3. Overloading the Desk
Each standing desk model has a specific weight limit that’s tested and measured by the manufacturer.
Since organizing standing desks is a bit harder(usually no drawers), If you somehow put more stuff on the desk than it can handle, it might interfere with the controller unit and force it to show an ASR error.
Overloading the desk not only interferes with the controller box but also can damage the desk motor in the long term. So make sure not to overload your standing desk.
4. Legs Failure
Standing desks usually have a dual motor system, and each motor is responsible for its own leg.
Although these motors are connected to each other and the controller unit too. But sometimes the system may malfunction and moves the legs unevenly which can interfere with the controller and lead to the ASR error.
It can also be caused by wobbly desk legs, so make sure to assemble the desk carefully following the instruction manual.
Additionally, make sure all the legs are sitting on a level and stable surface.
Steps to Fix ASR Error on Standing Desk
The main solution to the ASR error on a standing desk is simply resetting the desk as mentioned earlier.
However, if you want more details, I summarized the whole process into the four steps below:
Also in the next section(after the four steps below), you can find the exact resetting process for different desk brand.
1. Remove All Items Below the Desk
This is common sense, but just to make sure, take a look below your desk and remove any object that may stop the desk from going down.
in the next step, we’re going to lower the desk to its minimum, so make sure things like your chair’s armrest or computer case aren’t in the way.
2. Press and Hold Down the Arrow Button
Press and hold the down arrow button until the desk reaches its minimum level then release it.
If the arrow button does not respond, unplug the power cable and hold the down arrow button for 10 seconds to discharge any stored electricity left in the unit. Plug the desk back in and try lowering the desk.
3. Press and Hold Again to Reset
Make sure the desk is set to its lowest height(following the previous steps),
and now, press and hold the down arrow button again for a few seconds until the display panel shows RESET.
In most models, the desk is already reset when it shows “RESER”. However, in some models, you need to push and hold the “▼” again for the third time until the desk moves slightly, and then it resets!
4. Confirm Desk Reset
after resetting the desk, now you can release the down arrow button.
After doing so, your desk’s LED display will show the numbers again and the ASR message is gone, simple as that!
